An original art [STartUP], the Art Students League of New York was launched by artists determined to experiment with new techniques and forms of expression. Today thousands of students — from beginners to mid-career artists — study and work at the League with renowned instructors in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and mixed media.
To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the League’s building on 57th Street, we’re throwing open the doors May 11 and 12 for a two-day extravaganza of parties and open-house events.

Students and Instructors from the League have shaped the course of American art. Georgia O’Keeffe, Norman Rockwell, Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg, Louise Bourgeois, James Rosenquist, and Ai Weiwei are just a few of the League’s illustrious alumni.
Today, classes, lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and professional development programs continue the League’s legacy of supporting students who intend to make art a profession, and cultivating a spirit of community among artists.
