By cutting off funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, Trump also cuts the role the artist plays as a mirror to society. By cutting funding from climate change research at NASA, Trump is undermining the health of the planet and one of the most urgent concerns humans face today. By transferring most of the funding to the defense department, Trump is creating the need for an offensive.

The question of real or fake news comes to mind especially today (unfortunately, not all of what we’re reading is an April Fools’ Day joke): The philosopher Maimonides (Rambam) writes, “In his mind, man can tell between truth and lies, but between good and bad he can’t differentiate since these have to do with what is accepted or common […] there is no use to try and see between good or bad, just between what is true and what is a lie.” Our virtues and values are not affected by his.
