Helen Pashgian, an artist associated with the Light and Space movement of Los Angeles starting in the 1960s, is now represented by Lehmann Maupin, which will show an exhibition of her work in New York in spring 2020, the artist’s first in nearly 50 years. Pashgian, based in L.A., is known for luminescent sculptures that made her one of the epochal 20th-century art movement’s rare female members.

In a statement, gallery founder David Maupin said, “I cannot express how much it means to have Helen join the gallery. My roots in Los Angeles have kept me tied to this generation of artists, who are among my earliest and most lasting influences in how I look at art.”

Pashgian’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (2014); the Pomona College Museum of Art (2010); and the Palm Springs Art Museum (2007). She also featured in the group exhibition “Pacific Standard Time: Crosscurrents in L.A. Painting and Sculpture, 1950-1970” at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles in 2011.

Lehmann Maupin will debut new work by Pashgian at Frieze New York in May. Maupin added, “Helen’s visionary work has long been evident to me, and we’re honored to be bringing her work to the forefront as her global representation.”
